Tommy Wasabi Was Big In The ‘80s

Tommy Wasabi

Tommy Wasabi, a talented producer and vocalist based in Budapest, Hungary, released his debut EP, Big In The ‘80s, on all streaming platforms. On his first official foray into the music industry, Tommy raps over familiar instrumentals and melodies from songs such as Hey Ma by Cam’ron, Praise the Lord (Da Shine) by A$AP Rocky, No No No by Beirut, and more. Mixing nostalgic production and a crisp, hard-hitting flow, Tommy establishes himself as a newcomer to keep your eyes and ears on.

Preceded by Go Go Go, the lead single to the five-track extended play, Big In The ‘80s, the project builds upon flows Tommy Wasabi has been working on since 2016, with his earliest work, The Beauty of Life, releasing in December, 2016. It’s still available on YouTube. On the new EP, Tommy Wasabi has clearly been working. While The Beauty of Life is a strong release, Big In The ‘80s marks a huge jump in Tommy Wasabi’s delivery and lyricism.

  4. Penthouse Flow
  5. Whole Hog

In a recent interview with DCR, Tommy Wasabi shared that “developed an interest in rapping, piano, and songwriting in my late 20s, driven by the intellectual and creative challenge and the desire to make something beautiful,” with inspirations cited as established and versatile acts such as Jay Worthy, AZ, Fabolous, Tennis, The Smiths, and Marvin Gaye. It’s clear that he is learning from the greats while simultaneously giving back to and advancing the culture.

Yet, Tommy continues to grind and try new sounds. Later in the interview, he teased upcoming music where he experiments with more pop music influences, mixing melodies with his signature flow. We’re excited to see where Tommy’s creativity takes him. Tune in to Big In The ‘80s on Spotify and all major streaming platforms.
