An Interview with Styl3s
Meet Styl3s, an aspiring rapper from Southeast Washington, DC. Currently, he lives in Northern Virginia. As a result of being influenced by other notable artists such as Brent Faiyaz, Benny the Butcher, Lil Baby, and Drake, he created his own music. Between 2020 and 2022, he released three singles, Glasses, Big Juice, and Day Old, before dropping a three-song EP, titled Special.
Hey! Introduce yourself. Where are you from?
Growing up, I lived in Southwest D.C. Now I live in Northern Virginia. My family is originally from Florida.
When did you start making music?
Over a decade ago, I began making beats. It’s only been about three years since I started recording.
Who inspired you to start making music?
Music has always been a passion of mine, but I think it began during my time in the military. Our barracks had a room where everyone could freestyle and learn how to make beats.
How would you describe your music style?
I would describe my music as an eclectic style. But, I’m finding the smoother raps are coming off better for me. It’s like Ma$e meets Heavy D, meets Biggie.
Who are you listening to now?
Drake, Benny the Butcher, Brent Faiyaz, and Lil Baby are on my playlist.
What’s your best project or single so far?
My best project so far is my song, Love and War.
Any upcoming releases from you to look out for?
On July 29th, I will release a video for a song called Give it Back.
Have any shoutouts?
I’d like to give shoutouts to 6301, The Music Chat, and The DMV.
