Interview

An Interview with B.E.S.

ByDCR May 21, 2024May 21, 2024
B.E.S.

B.E.S. is an emerging independent experimental house music trio who made their debut in 2023. Based in Washington, DC, the trio creates a hypnotic dance pop vibe by blending electronic and organic instruments with global influences. We had the opportunity to sit down with B.E.S. to discuss their journey, inspirations, challenges, and future plans.

Who or what inspired you to start making music? And, when did you start?

After my father passed in February 2020, I had a recurrent melody in my mind that wouldn’t stop and wouldn’t let me sleep! I had been writing songs in my early twenties but I only kept them in my journal. I finally decided to go to a studio and bring it to life after my dad died. The song ‘Gone Too Soon’ is a tribute to him.

What is your biggest challenge as an artist?

Shameless marketing and advertising our work.

What is your favorite project or single you have released?

So many favorites! Top 4: ‘Hypocrite,’ ‘Ibiza,’ ‘Inty Hayati,’ ‘In Summer.’

Who are your inspirations? What artists or bands are you listening to?

Always listening to new upcoming artists from diverse genres mixed with classics.

What’s the process behind working on a song like?

Tyler and I start with a discussion of an idea and direction. I have usually pulled samples for inspiration, and then I sing the melody while he lays down the track. Vocals come in during the session, and we decide who is best suited to sing the song. Moe comes in at the final stages to edit and add suggestions for additional instruments or sounds.

Tell me about your upcoming music and what inspired you to create it!

We just released ‘Sunrise,’ an infectious upbeat club song, and we have two more songs due for release: ‘Farida,’ a tribal love song, and ‘Olive Tree,’ a mysterious haunting piece with no vocals but epic tabla solos.

What are your plans for 2024?

Continue creating!

B.E.S. continues to push the boundaries of electronic music with their unique sound and creative process. With a series of exciting new releases on the horizon and a dedication to exploring diverse musical landscapes, B.E.S. is poised to make a significant impact on the electronic music scene. Stay tuned for more from this dynamic trio as they continue to innovate and inspire. Tune in on Spotify or your favorite streaming platform.
