Hey! Introduce yourself. Where are you from?
George Katsos here from Alexandria VA. Originally from Cambridge MA and the Boston music scene.
When did you start making music?
If we’re talking about learning others’ music and how to perform their songs, in elementary school. In regards to writing original music, as a youngster in the 1980s I participated in what was known as the last night jam at the famous Cambridge Music Complex outside of Boston the night before it was demolished.
Local bands and members such as from the band Boston, Aerosmith, The Cars, and The J. Geils Band, previously practiced there and the intrigue that surrounded them piqued my interest to become part of the scene.
During a two-decade hiatus, I paid homage to Liverpool, England during Beatlemania with my family. Upon returning home, music started making its way again into the daily routine with digital recordings and open mic performances.
Who inspired you to start making music?
I got confidence from my Mom and enjoyed watching 1960s and 1970s TV shows with musical acts like the Monkees, Donnie and Marie, Sha Na Na, the Banana Splits, the Partridge Family, and even the Brady Bunch and Lawrence Welk. Somewhere in there during an episode, a guy named Ringo was mentioned so I picked that up and the rest is history.
How would you describe your music style?
Loungy and proud.
Who are you listening to now?
British and Irish shanties.
What’s your best project or single so far?
I’m feeling really good about EP3 coming out this summer 2023. As a solo artist, my favorite songs to perform live are “Money Making Machine” from EP2 and “Johnny Save the World” an old performer and a crowd pleaser.
Any upcoming releases from you to look out for?
EP3 includes singles “Pickle Juice” and “Therapy” and different avenues with “There’s Much More” and “Outside Versailles”.
Have any shoutouts?
Post-COVID there are a lot of solid performers on stage at these open mics so go out and be surprised!
