An Interview with Mojo Marc
Mojo Marc, an emerging pop and dance artist from Southeast DC, blends nostalgic pop elements with modern dance beats. His lifelong passion for music led him to perform in local choirs and talent shows from a young age. Now, with a clear vision, Marc is embarking on his professional music journey, with plans for new music, videos and content that will appeal to fans of both old-school disco and new pop. In this interview, we have the pleasure of talking with him about his journey and aspirations.
Hey, thanks for chatting with us. Tell us a little about yourself.
Hello, and thank you for having me. I’m Mojo Marc, born, raised, and still residing in Washington, DC. My passion for music surfaced at an early age—my parents often caught me singing and creating melodies, which led me to join my elementary school choir. I am a 30-year-old visually impaired tenor striving to turn my dream of singing into reality. Previously, I worked as a Federal Government Contractor for ten years but realized that my true calling was in music. I am inspired by Stevie Wonder, who pioneered for individuals with disabilities and crafted a path for himself in the music industry. I am currently signed with Major Record Distribution Union Group and am excited to work with my new music family and team to establish myself as a household name.
Who or what inspired you to start making music? And, when did you start?
I began my musical journey early, finding singing to be a powerful means of self-expression, personal growth, and resilience. My parents played a variety of music, which helped shape my musical tastes. I am deeply inspired by Stevie Wonder—a true pioneer for individuals with disabilities—as well as Minnie Riperton, Luther Vandross, Mariah Carey, and Whitney Houston. I also enjoy music from the ’60s and ’70s.
What is your biggest challenge as an artist?
As an artist, my biggest challenge is my eyesight. I have low vision due to AMD and Cone Rod Dystrophy, and while I’ve gradually lost my central vision, I am grateful still to have my peripheral vision. It requires immense mental strength to cope with the loss of senses, but I am committed to overcoming these obstacles.
What is your favorite project or single you have released?
My favorite project is my first original song, “My Life,” which was released on January 24, 2025. I love how the song energizes listeners, taking them on an adventure with a meaningful message. I am currently working on an album set to release next year.
Who are your inspirations? What artists or bands are you listening to?
I am inspired by Stevie Wonder, Minnie Riperton, Luther Vandross, Mariah Carey, and Whitney Houston, and I have a deep appreciation for the music of the ’60s and ’70s.
What’s the process behind working on a song like?
The process behind working on a song involves dedication to creating a brand and sound that people will want to listen to, enjoy, and support.
Tell me about your upcoming music and what inspired you to create it!
My single “My Life” was released in January 2025, and I am hopeful it will be well-received. I am also excited about my upcoming album, inspired by my journey and the people who have influenced me.
What are your plans for 2025?
For 2025, I aim to see how my single performs, and I hope it reaches Number 1 on the Billboard Charts.
Have any shoutouts?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my manager, Phyllis Salter Gann from Salter Gann Universal Promotions, my label, Major Record Distribution Group, and my distributor, The Orchard.
