Interview

An Interview with L.E.M.

ByDCR February 24, 2025February 24, 2025
An Interview with LEM

L.E.M. is a talented producer and DJ with a passion for 2000s hip-hop music who has been releasing lofi instrumental hip-hop music online since July, 2024. His first official release, Melodius, broke over 9,000 streams, jumpstarting the artist’s career. In February, 2025, L.E.M. published his newest single to date, Night Tapes. In this interview, we catch up with the producer and DJ to discuss his inspirations, biggest challenge as an artist, and much more.

Who or what inspired you to start making music? And, when did you start?

I’ve always had a love of music, and I played multiple instruments during my youth. I had the desire to reconnect to music as a young adult, so I turned to electronic music production to capture the sounds and melodies in my head.

What is your biggest challenge as an artist?

Finding time, finishing songs, and promotion as an artist.

What is your favorite project or single you have released?

My new single, Night Tapes, is definitely one of them.

Who are your inspirations? What artists or bands are you listening to?

I love early 2000s hip-hop, with Outkast being my favorite acts.

What’s the process behind working on a song like?

I start by recording melodies on midi and guitar. I’ll then upload them into a DAW to shape the sound, add samples, accompaniments, and bass lines. Then, I mix and master the track.

Tell me about your new single and what inspired you to create it.

Night Tapes is based on a melody I recorded over a decade ago. I never finished it, but I came back to it after completing a recent course on music theory. It helped me unlock some some ideas to complete the song.

What are your plans for 2025?

I’ll be releasing 6-10 singles this year.

With almost a dozen new singles planned for 2025, L.E.M. is an artist to watch if you love lofi hip-hop music as much as we do. With Night Tapes having just been released, it’s a great starting place before diving into the artist’s entire catalog. Check out L.E.M. and his music online on Spotify, YouTube, or your favorite digital streaming platform.
