Who is The Blvck Emperor?
Zimbabwe-born, New York City-based afro house producer The Blvck Emperor, whose real name is Lennox Matsinde, is pushing the needle with only one single so far. Released last month, Ndina Mwari has already broken 1,000 streams on Spotify alone. For a debut single, this is fantastic. Seamlessly mixing together modern house influences with afro fusion roots, The Blvck Emperor is looking at an unstoppable run over the next few years.
The Blvck Emperor’s passion for music began at a young age, creating hip hop music and releasing mixtapes with his friends. It was there that he began producing and growing a love for electronic music, with his new favorite genre being house music. In college, he became a resident DJ and was performing in front of huge crowds at festivals.
His debut single, Ndina Mwari, is inspired by his faith. :God gave me the vision to make an uplifting and inspiring afro house record. I sing in my native language. The direct translation of the words I’m saying is “I am with God” … (it has a) deeply personal and meaningful message, disguised in a house best,” Lennox reflected in a recent interview.
With more music on the way, we expect to see and hear more from The Blvck Emperor. Until then, tune in to Ndina Mwari wherever you listen to music, whether it’s Spotify, YouTube, or another streaming service. Want to learn more? Check out this interview.
