An Interview with Kota. AKA Kota Moss
We had the pleasure of interviewing Kota. AKA Kota Moss, a rising artist in the alternative rap genre signed by UNFOWND MUSIK. In this interview, Kota Moss shares his journey as an artist, including the struggles he faced along the way and the diversity of his voice and style, which can sometimes be a challenge when choosing a specific lane for his music. Kota Moss also talks about his upcoming EP, Name on the Wall, set to release on May 12th. We’re excited to see where Kota Moss’s talent takes him.
Hey, thanks for chatting with us. Tell us a little about yourself.
I currently reside in the Atlanta, GA area of the United States. I saw the world at an early age through living in Germany, Japan, Texas, Washington D.C, and Savannah. Like many artists I have had my own struggles and went through some extremely dark times, most recently losing one of his closest friends to a fentanyl overdose. Although the road has not been an easy one for him, it finally feels like he may have got his “break” and found a home for his talent with UNFOWND MUSIK.
Who or what inspired you to start making music? And, when did you start?
I started my passion for music at 8 years old playing the guitar, drums as well as other instruments. My natural gift for music led me to become the frontman of a band, opening for acts like The Marshall Tucker Band and“Papa Roach. I decided to take a break from music and joined the military, specifically the Air Force, where I was stationed in Japan for several years. Once my time in the military was up, I went back to my true passion of making music and added to my already impressive skills by learning how to create and produce. I then transitioned into a more hip hop style which ultimately ended me in the rock-rap genre.
What is your biggest challenge as an artist?
My gift, which is the diversity of his voice and style of music. At times it can be difficult to choose a specific lane for my music.
What is your favorite project or single you have released?
Definitely the upcoming EP that will be released under UNFOWND MUSIC on May 12th, 2023.
Who are your inspirations? What artists or bands are you listening to?
Artists such as Lil Peep and others in the emo genre. I also listen and get inspiration from other artists such as Odesza, Caskey, and others in various genres.
What’s the process behind working on a song like?
I take a hands-on approach with my music by writing, producing, and mixing and mastering 95% of my songs.
Tell me about your upcoming music and what inspired you to create it!
The upcoming EP on May 12, 2023, titled “Name on the Wall” will have a rock-rap style that is inspired by the diversity of the artists that have influenced him. There are also a number of singles that will be released this summer that truly show he is more than just your average hip hop artist.
What are your plans for 2023?
Release of an EP, release of a number of singles, and going on tour by the end of the year.
