An Interview with Jill Hudnell
Jill Hudnell, a Maryland-based singer originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is set to release her debut EP on March 3. Despite working as a Doctor of Nursing Practice and caring for the sick, Hudnell has never given up on her love for singing. Get to know the talented singer in this interview.
Hey, thanks for chatting with us. Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Jill Hudnell and I’m from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I’ve spent most of my life in the south, Huntsville, AL and this is where I found my voice. Starting in the church choir, I knew singing would be what I was meant to do in some fashion. Life took me on a lot of turns and led me to be a Doctor of Nursing Practice, seeing patients and caring for the sick; I never stopped singing, though. I’ve competed in local singing competitions in Huntsville, but I knew I was destined for something bigger than my little hometown. It is my dream to sing and touch the souls of everyone who hears my voice.
Who or what inspired you to start making music? And, when did you start?
I’ve been inspired since I first heard Whitney Houston sing Saving All My Love For You. Her voice is so powerful and also uplifting. I wanted to make others feel the way she made me feel when she sang; Like anything is possible.
I started singing at age 12 in the church choir.
What is your favorite project or single you have released?
Born To Fly.
Who are your inspirations? What artists or bands are you listening to?
Sara Evans is my inspiration, along with Faith Hill and Whitney Houston.
What’s the process behind working on a song like?
It takes a lot of time and effort, sprinkled with a lot of patience.
Tell me about your upcoming music and what inspired you to create it!
I was inspired to do cover songs initially so that I could spread the word on my voice and abilities.
What are your plans for 2023?
My plan is to establish a base of fans that are very diverse in music. Successfully sign to a record label and begin to work with other songwriters to develop and produce my original music.
