Who is Manje Khan?
Manje Khan is a recording artist from Atlanta, Georgia who has been releasing alternative hip hop and R&B music for the past few years. His most successful single, Splash!, has gone on to be streamed more than 600,000 times on Spotify Alone. With an ever-evolving style, Manje Khan focuses on writing music that’s fun and catchy, yet incredibly deep and personal. His new release, Sweetest Pie, is a catchy song that features alt-pop and hip-hop influences, highlighting his versatility and range.
With an upbringing that combines Nigerian heritage with the American dream, Manje Khan tells the tales of his two contrasting worlds through his finely-crafted lyrics, pivoting between the roles of Manje Khan (the smooth harmonizer) and his alter ego Slum Kid (the interpersonal rapper). Throughout his introspective strain of hip-hop, he has a deeply personal approach to music that’s curated in a sound that captivates with soulful grooves and witty lyrics.
“This song is about people who can’t express themselves to the one they have feelings for,” Manje Khan reflects about the track in a recent interview. What inspired the song? Manje elaborates that “When the pandemic started, so many new people were coming to Atlanta and I met someone new to the city. What always captivated me about her was her smile… I thought it was the sweetest thing about her. Even though it didn’t work out, it made me realize it’s the little things about someone which brighten up your day.” The song has an 808 groove, with a deep kick drum and some hi-hat that drive the rhythm. Sweetest Pie is a refreshing song for expressing how you feel about someone in your life.
