An Interview with BFG
BFG is a rising rapper from Maryland. After the death of his close friend and fellow recording artist who he had been recording in a duo with, he had to finish their album as a solo project, which was released in 2021 as Belly N Da Beast. In this interview, we discuss the meaning behind BFG, who he’s listening to now, and more.
Hey! Introduce yourself. Where are you from?
My name is BFG meaning Bound For Glory, it is more a way of life. Currently based in Baltimore, but my hometown is Frederick, Maryland.
When did you start making music?
High school. More just for fun stuff, goofy songs and such, wasn’t serious until around 2016 and even then I wasn’t focused.
Who inspired you to start making music?
No one really inspired me. A few have suggested if I consider doing this for a living. Lots of rappers I like but was any of that the reason I started making music, no it wasn’t. Just to be honest. I just really wanna share my thoughts and make good music for people to enjoy.
How would you describe your music style?
Out of the box. I think it’s hard to put a certain style to me. I like to try and change up on every song. Even in the verse of the song I like each part to sound different.
Who are you listening to now?
Right now I got Nas King’s Disease 2 and Magic on repeat. Always rocking some Freddie Gibbs, Big Sean, Childish Gambino, a lot of Benny the Butcher lately too, to name some.
What’s your best project or single so far?
This project so far. Originally it was supposed to be a duo but since my teammate passed away I had to make sure every verse was great, every song meant something, and the ones we came up with together, I kept those same ideas. Even though I had to fill spots I didn’t wanna change any thoughts we came up with together. Hence the name of the album, that’s actually what our group was going to be called. Crazy idea but we were gonna roll with it.
Any upcoming releases from you to look out for?
Not positive about releases at this moment. Still wanna do another video or two for this current project. I know I am currently writing stuff for another one. So the process is flowing.
Have any shoutouts?
Just anyone who has ever enjoyed what I do. I thank you and I wouldn’t even be on this journey without you.
