An Interview with la1n
We sat down with self-proclaimed wannabe cowboy and easy listening jazz musician la1n for an exclusive interview to discuss creating music in quarantine, nightcore and witch house influences, and more.
Hey! Introduce yourself. Where are you from?
Hi! I go by the artist name la1n and I’m from Houston, Texas, and a major wannabe cowboy.
When did you start making music?
I’ve dabbled for as long as I can remember, mainly with the guitar and anything else I could get my hands on. I didn’t formally start songwriting and making full-fledged songs until this past year over quarantine when I was too bored to let my regular self-consciousness get in the way of making music.
Who inspired you to start making music?
I can’t even recall who initially inspired me 2 do it – making music is like a big dumb compulsion I can’t help.
How would you describe your music style?
Hmm, I am inspired by current pop trends as well as all the ones I have seen come and go over the years, like old school nightcore and 2010s Vocaloid and witch house, so I feel like my sound is kind of an amateur regurgitation of all that. It’s very much so internet pet sounds.
Who are you listening to now?
John C. Lilly dolphin sounds, Hannah Diamond, and ABBA Always
What’s your best project or single so far?
Whatever is the most recent one!
Any upcoming releases from you to look out for?
I upload new work to my SoundCloud every other week so keep your eyes peeled!
