An Interview with Drasmatic
We had the chance to sit down with Bay Area transplant Drasmatic to discuss growing up in Texas, conscious hip hop, his influences, and more. Check out the exclusive interview below.
Hey! Introduce yourself. Where are you from?
Hello Downers Club, my name is Richard and my MC name is Drasmatic. I’m originally from Texas and now reside in the Bay Area, California.
When did you start making music?
I started making music at the age of 12. Writing, listening to music over songs over Napster. First started recording when I was 13.
Who inspired you to start making music?
Hip-Hop did. The fact at the time was that radio started shifting certain artists for extended play. At the time, my favorite album to listen to when I first started was the OZ Soundtrack. Being it had a wide variety of different artists on the record. Eventually, my course would be a more positive conscious feel to it which is my sound today.
How would you describe your music style?
My music style is dark light conscious hip hop. Music that is a stream of consciousness and stream of lyricism. On topics like spirituality, meditation, politics and art. Some positive, some negative, but always relating to thought.
Who are you listening to now?
Orko Eloheim, Bigg Jus, Grap Luva, Damu The Fudgemunk, Aya, Run The Jewels, Blackilicious, Zion I, Georgia Anne Muldrow, and more.
What’s your best project or single so far?
My best project is “Mystic”. It’s a similar instance of relating to thought or consciousness that is very soothing to the ear.
Any upcoming releases from you to look out for?
On August 29th I’m releasing an EP entitled “Array”. More of the artistic and creative side through vision.
Have any shout outs?
April Riley, my girlfriend has been very supportive. So shout out to her.
