An Interview with Jared

We had the opportunity to sit down with Jared, a Saint Lucia based Gospel Rap and Hip Hop artist. Learn more about his relationship with God, upcoming single, and more. 

Hey! Introduce yourself. Where are you from?

My name is Jared, I was born Peter Augustin in the region of Gros Islet, Saint Lucia. I’m a 29 year old Gospel Rap/Hip Hop recording artist and songwriter.  

When did you start making music?

In 2010!

Who inspired you to start making music?

While attending the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, I discovered that I was excelled in writing poetry.  My writings were about love and life in general. 

In my second year of college I re-surrendered my life to my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.  As I attended church, I found more and more that I could write lyrics and add them to beats which he sang at church services.  I did not immediately excel in this area, but kept persevering whilst listening to many rap artists who inspired me e.g. Kanye West in his early years, Lecrae, K-Drama to name a few.

How would you describe your music style?

Of substance, relevant for today and it has a vibe to it.

Who are you listening to now?

Aaron Cole, YBN Cordae, J Cole, Drake, Lecrae, just to name a few. 

What’s your best project or single so far?

My best single so far is Break the Glass, and also another is called Work.

Any upcoming releases from you to look out for?

Yes it is called Hear ‘Em!
