We got the chance to sit down with Chicago artist Dee Washington to discuss his genre bending sound, Michael Jackson influences, and more…

Hey! Introduce yourself. Where are you from?

My name is Dee Washington, which is also my stage name. I’m from Chicago, Illinois!

When did you start making music?

I started making music in August of 2018… But I have a musical family, so I’ve been around music for a while. I’ve always wanted to sing and always wrote songs.

Who inspired you to start making music?

Michael Jackson is a huge reason I started recording music. Also, Tracy Chapman, who I really look up to.

How would you describe your music style?

I don’t mean to sound cliche but I’m very versatile with my sound. I just adjust to any beat. I don’t have a specific genre.

Who are you listening to now?

Michael Jackson, Tracy Chapman, Cardi b, and Khelani.

What’s your best project or single so far?

Everywhere I go people tell me they like my single “Beware Tha Beast” but I personally like my new song “Hard For Me” that I like that I will release on my new EP called Genesis.

Any upcoming releases from you to look out for?

My new EP I plan on releasing called Genesis.
