Album Review – CATALYST by shattered
“I got girls in my TL trynna love me, cuz their heart’s getting crazy when they write me” teenage superstar shattered (@prodbyshattered) sings over his own production on Beside Me.
Shattered is a 15 year old pop punk singer songwriter from Florida we’ve been following for a while. He rose to fame after releasing tell me that you miss me in early 2018, which was picked up by Spotify’s editorial team on their Tear Drop playlist. Our label signee, Spell Jordan, linked up with shattered in June on Crazy, produced by Scotty Splash. Check the single out here.
Shattered’s music is romantic, self-reflective, at times sad, happy, angry, but always emotional. Shattered’s crooning “woahs” are simplistic yet beautiful ways to compliment his lyricism, such as at the 1:45 mark on until I’ve bled produced by 8ROKEBOY. Shattered has one of the most unique voices in the scene, and supplements that with superb production.
Shattered is supported on CATALYST by fellow “bop-punk” artists 9TAILS, Flowars, Convolk, Poppy Tears, and more. The album doesn’t have too many features by any means, and shattered holds his own on every single song. The production is super and it was great to see names such as jakkyboi and Nick Mira on the production credits.
Out of the “emo-trap”/”sad boys”/”bop-punk”/”alternative trap” scene… shattered is one of, if not the, best. CATALYST is his first full length project and he’s only 15. He has a ton of growth potential and a ton of amazing music out already. No two songs on CATALYST ever sound too similar, but the project doesn’t seem disjointed. It has a great flow to it. CATALYST is enjoyable start to finish.
Quotable lyrics:
“You hurt me bad, and that’s all you do, like knives, you cut deep in my skin.”
“Telling me you love me, you don’t even know my name, telling me you want me I said baby no way!”
