An Interview with COVE
We had the chance to sit down with Orlando-based artist COVE, who’s been making waves with his fresh sound and first official release. From his early days messing around on FL Studio to drawing inspiration from heavy-hitters like Chris Lake and Childish Gambino, he’s carving out a style that’s both groovy and punchy. In this interview, he opens up about his journey, challenges, and what fans can expect next.
Hey, thanks for chatting with us. Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m 31 and living in Orlando, Florida. I started making music back in high school, but I took most of my twenties off to focus on my corporate career. Once I got settled there, I found myself drawn back to music production—and I just dropped my first song, which feels amazing!
Outside of music, I’m passionate about health & fitness. I try to stay on top of my diet and workouts as much as I can. I’m also a huge horror fan—movies, books, all of it. Right now my favorite has to be Smile 2.
Who or what inspired you to start making music? And, when did you start?
Funny enough, Basshunter. Back in the day I was playing a ton of Dota, and he had just released a track called Dota. I loved the melody and wanted to figure out how it was made. When I was 15, I downloaded FL Studio and just started messing around with it.
What is your biggest challenge as an artist?
Knowing when to finish a song, I can get caught up in trying to perfect a sound, add a vocal chop here or slice samples in different ways. When I find myself getting caught up in a track, I step away for a day or so and usually get the spark to close it out.
What is your favorite project or single you have released?
Probably Do It Right, though, I’ve got a couple unreleased tracks that are definitely at the top of my list.
Who are your inspirations? What artists or bands are you listening to?
I pull inspiration from all over. Chris Lake, Childish Gambino, and Matroda are big ones for me. And if I’m in the mood to rage, I throw on Architects.
What’s the process behind working on a song like?
It usually starts one of two ways: either I come up with a melody, or I find a cool vocal sample that sparks something. From there, I build out the drums—kicks, hats—then move into the bass. I’m a big fan of Serum 2. Once I’ve got something I like, I test it on different speakers to make sure it hits the way I want, and then tweak from there.
Tell me about your upcoming music and what inspired you to create it!
My last two releases sat in a more groovy feel and I wanted something more punchier. My next release is very heavy on the bass with clean vocals to drive the emphasis on the drop. It’s definitely a mainstage banger.
What are your plans for 2025?
Keep the releases coming, start playing some shows, and hopefully host my own event here in Orlando.
With his mix of drive, creativity, and a clear love for the craft, COVE is definitely an artist to keep an eye on in 2025. Between new music, live shows, and even plans to throw his own event in Orlando, it’s clear he’s just getting started—and we can’t wait to see where he takes things next.
