An Interview with Verias Smith
We sit down with Verias Smith, an alternative indie rock artist from Boston, MA. Beginning his career in the 1980s and 1990s performing at some of the biggest venues in the New England area. In 2020, he released his debut single, American Song. Since then, he has released six more singles, with four being published in 2025. His most recent single, Halos, is a message to a loved one going down the wrong parth, and was made available on all digital streaming platforms and online stores on August 15. In this interview, we connect with Verias Smith to discuss his favorite single, creative process, and much more.

I’m a Boston indie alum returning to music after being away for a long time.
Who or what inspired you to start making music? And, when did you start?
I was born a song writer.
What is your biggest challenge as an artist?
Music marketing.
What is your favorite project or single you have released?
My favorite single has to be Shadow.
Who are your inspirations? What artists or bands are you listening to?
I’m listening to Phoebe Bridgers and Squirrel Flower.
What’s the process behind working on a song like?
Writing is second nature, like breathing. Recording is where the work begins.
Tell me about your upcoming music and what inspired you to create it!
New songs coming next are all stripped down and more honest made with no autotune, no quantizing, just straight forward human amplified sounds.
What are your plans for 2025?
My second album.
