Who is Cathartika?
Founded in 2015 by Duane Cook in Cortez, Colorado, Cathartika is an immersive multimedia project that blends music, visual art, and live performance into a cohesive emotional experience. Co-produced and art-directed by Snezhina Cook, Cathartika pushes creative boundaries—drawing inspiration from folk, country, and rock traditions, animated storytelling, and poetic imagery.
Duane Cook, the visionary behind Cathartika, began this project as a platform where dream and reality intertwine, exploring personal and imaginative narratives through a blend of performing, visual, and literary arts. Snezhina Cook enhances the project’s aesthetic scope—handling backing vocals, photography, visual art, and animation alongside Duane’s musical direction. Musically, the project resists genre constraints—embracing folk, rock, Americana, and subtle country influences while maintaining an electrifying live energy to engage audiences emotionally and physically.
Cathartika crafts music that resonates with emotional storytelling, often paired with striking visuals or animated content. Their songs include “What Would You Do For Love,” “Insecurities,” and “Happiness,” each combining heartfelt lyricism with folk-rock sensibilities. Through their music and visual art, the band explores themes of dream, love, identity, and human connection, aiming to inspire empathy and introspection.
Cathartika’s ethos is all about awakening dreams—using art and music as conduits for personal and shared emotional journeys. Their performances spark connection and immersion, functioning as evocative art events rather than just concerts.
Cathartika stands at the vibrant intersection of music, visual artistry, and personal expression. At its core is Duane Cook’s vision—a belief that music can awaken dreams and foster deep human connection. From their intimate singles to energetic live performances set against the backdrop of the American Southwest, Cathartika invites listeners into a world where art is lived and felt, not just heard.
