Who is Sofia Sampaio?

Sofia Sampaio is a rising alternative singer-songwriter whose music reflects a rich tapestry of cultural influences and personal experiences. Born in Brazil and raised in Texas from the age of seven, Sofia’s early exposure to diverse musical genres—ranging from Brazilian bossa nova to 90s rock—played a pivotal role in shaping her artistic sensibilities. Her parents’ musical inclinations, with her mother being a piano teacher and her father an enthusiastic singer, further nurtured her passion for music. By the age of seven, Sofia was already crafting melodies and lyrics, laying the foundation for her songwriting journey. 

Currently based in Houston, Texas, Sofia continues to hone her skills by studying songwriting and production through Berklee Online. Sofia’s musical inspirations are as eclectic as her background, drawing from artists and bands such as Sir Chloe, Beabadoobee, Fontaines D.C., The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Mazzy Star, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, and Nirvana. Her creative process typically begins with finding compelling chord progressions on her guitar, followed by developing melodies and introspective lyrics that resonate with her personal experiences.

On May 9, 2025, Sofia released her debut single, “Better Off Bored,” a dreamy, melancholic indie-pop track that delves into themes of emotional detachment and the complexities of romantic infatuation. The song seamlessly blends the emotional edge of 90s rock with the rhythmic undertones of her Brazilian heritage, showcasing her unique ability to fuse diverse musical elements into a cohesive sound.
