An Interview with RAMBO the Band

ByDCR October 23, 2024October 24, 2024
RAMBO the Band

RAMBO the Band is a rising force in the rock world, consisting of veteran musicians Lawrence Rambo (guitar), Bill Alderson (bass), and Dan Croley (drums). Drawing inspiration from the classic power trios that have shaped rock for decades, this hard-hitting group has spent the last year perfecting their sound. Now, with their debut album on the horizon and a national tour in the works, RAMBO is ready to introduce their unique blend of rock, blues, jazz, and soul to a wider audience. We had the chance to sit down with the band to discuss their journey, musical inspirations, and plans for 2024.

Hey, thanks for chatting with us. Tell us a little about yourselves.

RAMBO the Band consists of Lawrence Rambo on guitar, Bill Alderson on bass, and Dan Croley on drums. Each of us is a veteran of national tours, and about a year ago, we saw the opportunity to come together and form RAMBO the Band. We’re a hard-driving three-piece powerhouse, reminiscent of the iconic power trios that have dominated the rock scene for decades.

We’ve been playing locally, somewhat incognito, for the past year, using that time to write and perfect the material for our first full album. It’s a collection of back-to-back musical performances that are sure to captivate any rock lover—and fans of other genres as well. Our sound blends heavy rock, blues, jazz, and melodic soul, creating something uniquely our own.

Early on, we caught the attention of world-renowned producer and engineer Bill Chrysler. Once we all felt the timing was right, Bill brought us into his world-class studio, Third Coast Recording, to produce the album. Now, as we near its completion, we’re gearing up for the first national leg of what promises to be a long-running tour.

Who or what inspired you to start making music? And when did you start?

Dan (Drummer): My family, especially my dad.
Bill (Bass Player): Same here—my family has always been a big inspiration.

What is your biggest challenge as an artist?

Social media, without a doubt. It’s a whole different beast from what we’re used to.

What’s your favorite project or single you’ve released?

Our favorite is Voodoo Nights by RAMBO the Band. We’re incredibly proud of our new LP and have poured everything into these songs. We’ve gotten a fantastic response from live audiences, and we can’t wait to share our music with as many people as possible.

Who are your inspirations? What artists or bands are you listening to?

We all have an extremely wide musical palette. We appreciate everything from rock, hard rock, and metal to country, jazz, bluegrass, ska, R&B, classical, Native American, medieval, hip hop, and progressive. If it’s done well and comes from the heart, we’re into it. Our early influences when we first started playing music include:

  • Dan (Drummer): From Black Sabbath to modern funk.
  • Bill (Bass Player): Led Zeppelin, The Tubes, Jeff Beck, Van Halen, Joe Walsh.
  • Lawrence (Guitar): Early Johnny Winter, Led Zeppelin, Roy Buchanan, John McLaughlin.

What’s the process like when working on a song?

Usually, one of us comes up with a basic riff or idea, or we stumble upon something while jamming during warm-ups. From there, we experiment with it in different directions as a band until it evolves into a full song.

Tell me about your upcoming music and what inspired you to create it.

We’re extremely proud of our new LP, and we’ve truly poured ourselves into each track. The positive reaction we’ve gotten from live audiences has been amazing, and we’re excited to share this music with a broader audience.

The inspiration for this album was the drive to push ourselves beyond our limits and create something we could all be proud of.

What are your plans for 2024?

We plan to promote the album, create theatrical music videos, perform live shows, and get our online store up and running.

As RAMBO the Band prepares to take their new music on the road, it’s clear that their passion and dedication will continue to drive them forward. With a bold debut album and plans for an exciting year ahead, including live performances and theatrical music videos, the band is ready to make their mark on the music scene. Their commitment to pushing boundaries and creating heartfelt, powerful music ensures that RAMBO will be a band to watch in the coming years. Stay tuned for what’s next from this dynamic trio.
