In today’s ever-evolving music industry, versatility is key, and few embody that more than KBA League. As a music producer, DJ, and artist, KBA has carved a unique path for himself in the world of sync placements, working on music for films, TV, and media projects. With a background that includes everything from live DJing to crafting complex hip-hop tracks, KBA’s journey is as multifaceted as his sound. In this interview, we dive into his inspirations, creative process, and what’s next for him in 2024.
Hey, thanks for chatting with us. Tell us a little about yourself.
Thanks for having me! I’m a music producer, DJ, and artist with a focus on sync placements for film, TV, and various media. I’ve been in the industry for quite some time, developing my skills in different areas, from production to rapping to live DJing.
Who or what inspired you to start making music? And, when did you start?
It’s hard to pinpoint one specific person or event because my inspiration came from everywhere and everyone. Music has always been a part of my life in some form. As for when I started, I think I was making beats in my head before I could even properly express them!
What is your favorite project or single you have released?
That would have to be Chase Dough. It’s one of my proudest creations because it encapsulates everything I love about music production—complexity, energy, and a clear message. The track blends various elements of hip-hop with modern production techniques, and I feel like it hits that perfect sweet spot where it’s both catchy and meaningful.
Who are your inspirations? What artists or bands are you listening to?
Kanye West, without a doubt. His innovation in music production is on another level. The way he fuses genres, takes risks, and brings fresh ideas to the table has always inspired me. Kanye has consistently pushed boundaries, and that’s something I strive to do in my own work. Apart from Kanye, I’m always listening to a wide variety of artists.
What’s the process behind working on a song like?
The process can vary depending on the project, but generally, I like to start with the mix. The mix sets the foundation for everything else—it helps create the atmosphere and ensures that all the elements are balanced. From there, I usually build out the beat, layering sounds and experimenting with different instruments or samples. I love playing around with textures and rhythms until I find something that feels right. Once the structure is in place, I’ll refine it and add any final touches, like transitions or effects, to make the song flow seamlessly.
Tell me about your upcoming music and what inspired you to create it!
Right now, I’m working on a lot of new productions, especially for content creators and hip hop artists. I’m really focusing on expanding my reach into different creative spaces, collaborating with people who have unique visions and helping them bring those ideas to life through music.
What are your plans for 2024?
2024 is all about leveling up. I’m planning to release more beats, especially focusing on R&B music, which I’ve been experimenting with lately. I’m also looking to collaborate with a wider range of artists and content creators, building on my sync placement work and expanding into more visual media.
