Ess-B

We had the pleasure of chatting with a versatile and talented artist who goes by the name Ess B. With roots in Canada and a deep connection to the Caribbean vibe of St. Vincent in the Grenadines, Ess B brings a unique and melodious sound to his music that resonates with fans of all ages. His journey from instrumentalist to vocalist showcases his passion for music and his spontaneous, live-in-the-moment approach to life. In this interview, Ess B shares insights into his inspirations, challenges, creative process, and future plans, offering a glimpse into the world of an artist dedicated to his craft.

Hey, thanks for chatting with us. Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m a versatile artist focused on creating music that captures fans of all ages with a sweet, melodious sound that keeps them coming back for more. I was born in Canada but grew up in St. Vincent in the Grenadines, where I fell in love with the Caribbean flair and vibe. My love for being an instrumentalist quickly evolved, pushing me to the front of the stage as a vocalist. I enjoy having a good time, doing spontaneous things, and living in the moment.

Who or what inspired you to start making music? And, when did you start?

I’ve always had a passion for music, but I was mainly into sports; therefore, that was my main focus. My aunty V told me, “When you were small, you always used to be drumming and making noise on the tables, pots, and pans, and humming, and it used to annoy me, but I used to allow it because it made you happy.” In 2018, I started off in soca music but slowly transitioned over the years, trying a variety of genres to find what I’m comfortable with. It took some time, but it is understandable.

What is your biggest challenge as an artist?

I would say attaining exposure, capturing the right audience, getting radio play, getting the finances to promote my music, being consistent, getting my music played by DJs, getting content or material to keep the song alive, and the support needed from the right people to make my music known.

What is your favorite project or single you have released?

Currently, the song I released a few weeks ago titled “We Outside” is my go-to.

Who are your inspirations? What artists or bands are you listening to?

I mainly listen to afrobeats, soca, dancehall, and hip hop. A big inspiration for me would be Burna Boy. I have been following him for some time and am truly amazed by his growth and the impact he has made in the music arena. Chris Brown as well because he has been in the game for a long time.

What’s the process behind working on a song like?

It mainly comes with the feeling I get from a beat. It is definitely in the moment of listening to it. I’ll start humming and then put words to it.

Tell me about your upcoming music and what inspired you to create it!

No upcoming music for the time being. I’m just focusing on pushing my new song “We Outside” to the world as much as possible.

What are your plans for 2024?

To be consistent and create nothing but good vibes and good vibes only while building a foundation that would last a lifetime.

Have any shoutouts?

Huge shoutout to my mom, aunty Ré, and aunty Twanz for giving me strength when I needed it most, my grandfather for his words of wisdom, the rest of my family for their support, Shatta for constantly trying to find a way for me to get things done when going through a difficult time and pushing me to make things happen, and his family for helping me out in any way possible and making me feel at home whenever I visit. Aria and Nikayla for being there with me from the get-go, and the Blessed Love family of Ricky and Sue for showing me nothing but love that helped me restart my musical journey. Can’t forget DJ Saddy for rocking the tunes since 2018 at UWI. I hope I didn’t forget anyone…

Ess B’s journey is one of passion, perseverance, and a deep love for music that transcends genres and borders. As he looks forward to 2024, his goal is to maintain consistency and spread good vibes, all while building a lasting foundation in the music industry. With a supportive network of family and friends behind him, Ess B is poised to make a significant impact and share his melodious sound with the world. Tune in on Spotify.
