The band’s journey began with Spike Polite’s involvement in the May Day 1991 Riots at Tompkins Square Park. The incident, covered in a local Newsday newspaper with Spike’s photo, was pivotal in the formation of the band. Originally named HumYn Sewage, the band was known for its punk shows and participation in events like the ‘Punk Rock Beer Olympics.’
HumYn Sewage eventually evolved into Sewage NYC and then to its current incarnation, Spike Polite & Sewage NYC. The band’s lineup has seen several changes over the years, with the current members including Spike Polite on vocals and guitar, Michelle Shocked on bass and vocals, Anthony Romano on guitar and gang vocals, and Beast on drums.
