An Interview with Jay Mompre

ByDCR January 8, 2024January 8, 2024
Jay-Mompre

In this exclusive interview, we delve into the creative world of Jason Mompremier, known artistically as Jay Mompre, a dynamic musician and artist hailing from the vibrant streets of Miami. Jay’s journey in music, deeply rooted in his church upbringing and influenced by a myriad of genres including R&B, pop, and hip hop, paints a portrait of an artist dedicated to his craft. With his unique blend of influences and an unquenchable passion for music-making, Jay Mompre shares with us his inspirations, challenges, and aspirations.

Hey, thanks for chatting with us. Tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Jason Mompremier aka Jay Mompre. I’m a musician and artist from Miami who loves doing music. I grew up in the church singing and that’s where I found my love for music, and over time started R&B, pop, hip hop, and more.

Who or what inspired you to start making music? And, when did you start?

I was inspired by my parents singing at church. Seeing them on stage with their singing groups, my brothers and I decided to follow in their footsteps. I was around 8 at the time.

What is your biggest challenge as an artist?

Social media and being consistent.

What is your favorite project or single you have released?

My next song is called “Love One Another.” I think is a very powerful song that the world needs to hear.

Who are your inspirations? What artists or bands are you listening to?

My inspiration is music in general. I love making music, recording, mixing & turning nothing into something. I listened to a lot of Kompa music which is Haitian music. I also really like artists like Justin Bieber, Usher, Bruno Mars, and Chris Brown. I also like a cappella music. Especially groups that love Acapella, Take 6, Pentatonix & Committed.

What’s the process behind working on a song like?

Every song is different, sometimes the lyrics come first, then the melody next, and then you build around that. Sometimes it’s the melody that comes first or the beat that you’re writing to.

Tell me about your upcoming music and what inspired you to create it!

My next song is Love One Another. I saw some in the news that happened and I couldn’t get it off my mind. I couldn’t sleep, it just stayed in my head. The next day I went to the studio and everything that was on my mind unintentionally went on the song. That’s what inspired Love One Another.

What are your plans for 2024?

To put out my music and be more consistent.

Have any shoutouts?

Mama!

As our conversation with Jay Mompre comes to a close, it’s evident that his dedication and passion for music are the driving forces behind his artistry. His upcoming release, “Love One Another,” promises to be a powerful addition to his discography, inspired by a blend of personal experiences and societal observations.
