If you’re looking for a versatile, fun, alternative pop artist to watch, Kavai is the one for you. In this interview, we chat with Kavai about getting a buzz in college, Drake inspirations, the colorado capsule, and a whole lot more.
Hey, thanks for chatting with us. Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m an artist based out of San Antonio, TX. I am currently pursuing an entertainment career and I love working on music as well as being behind the scenes building projects for audiences to enjoy from the comforts of their houses or coming out to meet in person at venues and events. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, recently got into the sport of golf, terrible at it but enjoy the company that comes with it. I have a puppy named Harley and she’s a golden labradoodle. The music I make is in the alternative pop genre. Ear candy for fun lovers.
Who or what inspired you to start making music? And, when did you start?
Always been a fan of Drake and his wordplay. I began writing my sophomore year of high school and it was to instrumentals of Drake songs. It wasn’t until my Junior year of college that I released music on Soundcloud with my teammates.
What is your biggest challenge as an artist?
Getting my music heard past my friend group.
What is your favorite project or single you have released?
My favorite project was the colorado capsule. I flew out my creative team to the mountains of Colorado and we recorded music, shot music videos, and captured great photos. It was an incredible bonding experience and I recommend getting out of your city to anyone that’s stuck in writer’s block etc.
Who are your inspirations? What artists or bands are you listening to?
Drake, Dominic Fike, Felly, Jack Harlow, Mike. , Marc E. Bassy, Justin Bieber
What’s the process behind working on a song like?
I first like to find a beat that I feel something to, and from there, I record melodies that pop up in my head, then I start to add words, from there when I find words or phrases that stand out I build a story around that. After laying the main vocals out I like to add layers such as doubles and harmonies to make the song full.
Tell me about your upcoming music and what inspired you to create it!
As of right now, we are currently working on singles, I am currently inspired by the good things in life. My songs are upbeat and allow the listener to daydream and believe that life is good.
What are your plans for 2023?
I want to release music and get booked for shows.
Have any shoutouts?
Shout out to the team that I’m building, to my family and my dog—love y’all.
