What is a One Sheet for Music?
A one-sheet, or one sheet, is a single, one page document that includes information about you and your song, EP, or album that you are releasing. One-sheets can make or break your marketing or outreach campaign. This document is typically sent to blogs, radio stations, publications, and media outlets when requesting they cover or assist in promoting your new release. What is a one-sheet for?
A one-sheet should not only cover who you are and what this release is, but what industry stakeholders are currently supporting your release. As you can guess, blogs are more likely to cover you if other blogs already are, more venues will book you if you’re already booked, etc. That’s why it’s so important to have a document that tells the stakeholders you pitch to that other stakeholders are covering your release.
What should you include in your one-sheet?
What do I put in my one-sheet? We created a list of everything you need to have in a one-sheet. If everything in this list is included, you’re good to go.
- Your artist or band name
- The name of the release
- A description of the release and why it was created
- Your promotional strategy for the release
- Release date
- UPC
- Record label associated with the release
- Artwork
- Genre
- Tracklist if the release is more than one song
- Is the release explicit
- What industry stakeholders (radio stations, blogs, etc.) are covering this release
- Your upcoming performance dates and locations
You will want to consistently update your one-sheet as more industry stakeholders cover your release. You should always update your one-sheet and include new names that are helping promote the release to make your outreach more successful.
What should a one-sheet look like?
The best format for a one-sheet is a PDF because PDFs are accessible to all devices. Similar to your resume or CV, we recommend staying away from flashy designs. Keep your one-sheet simple and easy to read, with size 12 font, presented and organized in a straightforward and neat manner.
