An Interview with TyStringz
Nigerian-born American-based eclectic artist, TyStringz, whose real name is Oretayo Fatokun, has become a sensation to reckon with in the music industry. TyStringz has a B.Sc. and Master’s degree in Computer Science and has worked with some of the biggest companies in the world such as Microsoft. He decided to take the next step in his career to put his passion and his true love—which has always been music, into the limelight. We sat down with him to discuss his inspirations, biggest challenges as a musician, favorite releases, and more in this interview.
Who or what inspired you to start making music? And, when did you start?
I have always loved music and I have always played for myself sometime hours of tutorials, auditions, concerts typically anything music has always been my forte but I did not start making music until this year 2021 to which I dropped my first two singles and a video. In 2020, during the peak of the pandemic lockdown I realized even after working for some of the best companies, I only could only get true satisfaction from doing what I really love and does not feel like work to me which is music to its very core.
What’s been your biggest challenge as a musician?
As a musician currently, challenges are of different folds. The first is getting new fans to listen to my music as I am new to the space and just trying to garner an audience. The second is having a team structure that is in sync and helping me balance as I have my 9-5 job to help with time management and implementation of strategies.
What’s your favorite project or single you’ve made so far?
The three songs I have dropped have their unique feel, so I can say they all sit up there for me.
What’s the process behind working on a song like?
It depends—I write some songs with my instruments, guitar or piano, or I get sent a beat to which I put in my Logic Pro. I always try to make sure my melody creation process would sit in the listeners subconscious mind as that is what I believe is the true art of music. I want my listeners to go play my music, even when they are not thinking about it.
What are your plans for 2022?
I am hoping to shoot two music videos—one for Body and the other for Doings. Also, I hope to drop an EP since I have recorded a few songs this year already that have helped my catalog.
