An Interview with Mr. StarZ

We chatted with an up-and-coming force in the EDM and house music scenes—Mr. StarZ, about his Deadmau5 inspiration, his love for the UK garage scene, upcoming releases, and more. Mr. StarZ is preparing for a strong end to 2021, with multiple songs planned with record labels including Blanco y Negro and G-Mafia Records.

Hey! Introduce yourself. Where are you from?

My name is Mr. StarZ, though some call me Travis. I am an EDM and house music producer and DJ from Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

When did you start making music?

I started DJing when I went to college in Las Vegas, but I started producing and creating my music in 2020. 

Who inspired you to start making music?

In the EDM world, it was Deadmau5 for sure. I first heard “Strobe” when I was a sophomore in high school and it completely changed my perspective of music and how songs were arranged and put together. It made me want to do that; to learn how to do that and make people dance!

How would you describe your music style?

Dark and devious. I said that was going to be my vibe at the beginning of the year and I think I’ve kept to that with some gritty, powerful basslines and new energy and Bass House feel. My LED mask always helps!

Who are you listening to now?

I am falling in love with the UK garage scene, so I’m listening to a lot of Zero, Darkzy, Window Kid, Taiki Nulight. But always the House influences like MNNR, Malaa, Double Agent, and Wa-Fu to name a few!

What’s your best project or single so far?

My best project so far is an unreleased track of mine that is scheduled for release with a major label in December 2021. But as of now, my newest release, with major label.

Blanco y Negro, which is called “Bounce”, is a bangin, powerful house sound with a festival-ready drop and heart-thumping kicks.

Any upcoming releases from you to look out for?

Oh ya, I have releases scheduled all through November, December, and January, with major record labels including Blanco y Negro, G-Mafia Records, and a few more! This one on November 26th with Blanco y Negro is going to be FIRE, stay tuned!
