Interview

An Interview with PiKe BLVD

ByDCR November 25, 2019January 29, 2020

We had the chance to sit down with Pennsylvania recording artist PiKe BLVD to discuss his starts to making music, influences, varied musical tastes, and “Be Free”.

Hey! Introduce yourself. Where are you from?

Hey what’s up world! I go by the name PiKe BLVD. Originally, was born in Chester, Pennsylvania but the remainder of my childhood was spent in Wilmington, Delaware.

When did you start making music?

Well, I started rapping in high school but for fun. Nothing serious back then though. Making beats on the cafeteria table, participating in cyphers with other classmates in the lunchroom.

In 2012, I took the role of making songs more seriously. Without the proper knowledge of how to write a song, I would mimic how singers would format their music.

Who inspired you to start making music?

Truthfully it was my dad. He could play a guitar like no else man. He would have me listening to other genres of music all the time. He reminded me of Jimi Hendrix when he played. If you wanna talk about rap, I would say Busta Rhymes. His energy is contagious on every song.

Common taught me how to keep it poetic and hip hop. Nas displayed the lyricism I admired to be like. TI the swag and confidence. So many other artists to name on how they played a specific role in my music.

How would you describe your music style?

Simply hip hop.

Who are you listening to now?

Who do I listen to right now? It varies. Hans Zimmer, Kanye West, SAINt JHN to name a few.

What’s your best project or single so far?

The best project? I don’t think I’ve made it yet. So far, one of the favorite songs I have is “Be Free”. It’s so hip hop. It’s so complete. What a vibe.

Any upcoming releases from you to look out for?

Yes … From the Studio to the Stage EP.

Have any shout outs?

Yeah, the producers. Ric and Thadeus, for finding me and making themselves available. Paul Cabbin who played a huge influence on what the sound of my music is today. Angel of Malavé Music for taking the time to engineer my sound. God and my mother for birthing me. Otherwise I wouldn’t be here to say this.
