An Interview with Seth M. of Night Wilds

Seth-Micarelli-of-Night-Wilds

Night Wilds is a progressive alternative rock band based in Montana taking the industry by storm with a rapid-fire approach to releasing music. The group, led by singer-songwriter Seth M., has put out 7 singles over the past 4 months, leading up to their 17-song rock opera album, All That Should Have Been. In this interview, we sit down with Seth M., the founder of Night Wilds, to discuss what made him start writing and recording music, his biggest challenge as an artist, and more.

Who or what inspired you to start making music? And, when did you start?

I felt alone for a long time with the feelings I had within and could never really find a way to share them. The dark and light needed expression somewhere so I could know my own story and music was the way I found that.

I started when my parents got divorced when I was 14 and my mom bought me a 12 string at a garage sale. First thing I did was write a song, I never had much desire to cover music – although I did of course learn some songs over time but with any instrument I played (piano, guitar, etc) my desire was always just to write. I spent years writing from there.

What is your biggest challenge as an artist?

Continuing to refocus my attention on authenticity instead of success.

What is your favorite project or single you have released?

New Jerusalem!

Who are your inspirations? What artists or bands are you listening to?

Its diverse – Falling in Reverse, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Tool, Rage Against the Machine, and Ray LaMontaigne.

What’s the process behind working on a song like?

I get an idea and write on piano or guitar or a riff starts it.

Tell me about your upcoming music and what inspired you to create it!

I am releasing a 17 track album – my debut album called ‘All That Should Have Been’ – we have 4 singles left and then we drop the album in spring.

Have any shoutouts?

Many – my producer/engineer Tom Hall, Ben Smith – the drummer from Heart, and various people at companies who have helped me.
