Varun Kohli, a.k.a. NURAV, is a pop and rock singer, songwriter, and musician based in Texas. He made his debut in 2023 with his single You Know on May 3. With plans to release another single this year and continue to grow and evolve as an artist, we are excited about where Varun Kohli’s passion for music takes him next. In this interview, we chat with NURAV about his biggest challenge as an artist, his new single You Know, and a lot more.
Hey, thanks for chatting with us. Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Varun Kohli and I was born and raised in the state of Texas. My artist name is NURAV because that is my first name backward. I only started going into the route of music around 1 and a half years ago.
Who or what inspired you to start making music? And, when did you start?
The motivation to go into music came from around 1 and a half years ago when I was having fun with a friend and I sang a song and she said I sounded amazing which got me thinking, and I decided to pick up my guitar that I haven’t touched in over a decade and I started practicing the guitar, looking up on youtube the different notes and chords and practicing different songs and melodies, and I fell in love with music since then.
What is your biggest challenge as an artist?
The biggest challenge for me is the struggle to be patient with the process of making my first song. I believe that the best way to succeed is to put in as much work and think about as many ideas as you can for a song before putting it on release because once you put the song out for release you can no longer incorporate more ideas.
What is your favorite project or single you have released?
So far this is my first song, “You Know”, but I am in the process of making another song in the meantime as well that shouldn’t be too long before it’s ready.
Who are your inspirations? What artists or bands are you listening to?
I would say I listen to a variety of artists, but the songs I’m more into are stuff like pop and rock or a mix of both. Artists I say I like to listen to are Post Malone and Imagine Dragons.
What’s the process behind working on a song like?
I would say there are a lot of times in the process of the song where you will have to go back on some progress that you have made because there was a different melody or beat that came up that you think is better and you have to decide is it worth to spend the time to change from what you originally had.
Tell me about your upcoming music and what inspired you to create it!
My upcoming song is based on watching The Avengers, and hearing the war type of music that went on in the background gave me a melody in my head that I found to sound good for my next song.
What are your plans for 2023?
I plan to release enough hit songs to where it can get me some gigs and areas to perform.

This song wouldn’t exist if I never met Justin Labosco, who is a professional music producer who I met and made this song with. Without him, this song wouldn’t be at the level that it is.
