What’s New with TyStringz?

TyStringz is the next big thing in afrobeats. In under two years, he’s gone #1 in Nigeria, worked with artists like L.A.X, and performed with artists such as DaVido. Earlier this year, we chatted with him about his inspirations, his start to making music, and more. We wanted to see what he’s been up to since we last talked with him in this interview.

What has been your biggest success in 2022?

Going #2 on the iTunes Worldwide chart with Shalaye and going #1 with Shy featuring L.A.X and going #1 on iTunes on all genres in Nigeria. I’d also say getting featured by Billboard news and Hollywood Life magazine simultaneously. Finally, headlining my own show at the Rockwood Music Hall in New York on August 30th is huge.

What was the process of recording Shy with L.A.X like?

Answer: It was great chemistry and understanding after explaining the meaning of the song to L.A.X. We both linked up at my Airbnb in Houston after SXSW in Austin. Then along with producer Marphy J and mastering engineer Lostinparis Beats, the masterpiece was created.

What makes RoRa different than your previous music?

RoRa is a more party song with my attempt to fuse afro latina and afrobeats energy. Both have similar music elements and a catchy hook in Spanish. You can just feel the energy and it makes you want to dance and feel sexy and free.

What can we look out for in your upcoming EP?

Lots of diversity of sounds and fusions of creativity.

Who would you like to work with in the afrobeats scene now?

I’d love to work with Zinoleesky.

What do you have planned for 2023?

More music and collaborations.

Are you excited for your show in NYC? What can we expect to hear?

Very excited. And it would be an incredible musical experience for the audience. Nothing like they have experienced before in afrobeats space.
