An Interview with Vanderzee

Vanderzee

We had the opportunity to interview Vanderzee, an emerging creator from New York, about his eclectic music tastes, Jacob Collier influence, Guided Meditation, and more.

Hey! Introduce yourself. Where are you from?

Hi! My name is Vanderzee and I’m an artist based out of the Catskills in NY. I’ve been creating music in the woods for the past 2 years and love living up here where I can be as loud as I want in creating my music.

When did you start making music?

I’ve been making music ever since I was a kid, creating silly songs with my sister. I was in a band for my whole school life, which eventually led me to the guitar. I went to college and grad school for music, where I spent a lot of time composing and performing. Ever since the pandemic, I’ve started producing my own original music and I feel that I’m ready to share it with the world!

Who inspired you to start making music?

One of my biggest influences has been Jacob Collier. His incredible range and multi-instrumental prowess inspired me to start playing other instruments and to produce my own music.

How would you describe your music style?

In one word—eclectic. My music is influenced by a wide variety of genres – from classical and jazz to pop punk and hyperpop. I love combining different elements in my music and seeing what comes out.

Who are you listening to now?

100 gecs, Polyphia, Tame Impala, Sylvan Esso, and Imogen Heap.

What’s your best project or single so far?

My best single out right now would be Guided Meditation. It’s not quite what you would expect from the title.

Any upcoming releases from you to look out for?

I’m currently working on my first solo album that will be coming out later in 2022!

Have any shoutouts?

Thank you to Janna Pelle for all your love and support in the creative process!
