An Interview with Singer Muratti

Singer-Muratti

Singer Muratti, whose real name is Murat Ozturk, is a Turkish singer and songwriter based in Dubai. We interviewed him to discuss why he started making music professionally, his favorite release, and more.

Hey! Introduce yourself. Where are you from?

Hi there, my name is Murat Ozturk, I am Turkish but have been living in Dubai, United Arab Emirates since 2007.

When did you start making music?

I started taking it seriously when I started taking classical singing lessons about 10 years ago. But this was only to learn how to use my voice and basically to become a classical singer. I started making my own music after I lost a close friend and my boss to a heart attack in May 2020. Despite being my direct manager he always supported my musical passion and encouraged me countless times on this.

Who inspired you to start making music?

It would be Mark Twain. “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.”

How would you describe your music style?

It could be any style and genre. I think what makes music special is that it transcends all boundaries. It doesn’t have a religion, race, class, or any other definition. So when I create music I don’t care about the genre, what I prefer to do is to create how I love to create it.

For performing I can perform in 7 different languages. I can sing classical crossover songs/arias/art songs/musicals and folk songs in Italian, French, German, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, and Azeri languages.

Who are you listening to now?

Currently, I am listening to Paolo Nutini.

What’s your best project or single so far?

I can’t choose any one of them. But in terms of publicity and reach it is my Turkish pop song “Severdik Sonbahari” which was composed by my close friend Italian pianist Gianluca Imperato. I like my French Rap/English Pop song “Night River” and 80s style Nu-disco dance song “Want you 2” as well.

Apart from the above, the 120 years old Turkish folk song “Fikrimin Ince Gulu” which I recorded after the passing of my friend has a special place in my heart.

Any upcoming releases from you to look out for?

I am at the moment working on a new single. The name is “Fake Me”, it is about a guy who sees a picture of his love with someone else who looks a bit like him.

Have any shoutouts?

I am extremely grateful for all the musical talents I have collaborated and worked on in this music journey so far. A special shoutout to people who put their heart into their music (“the people who play with the blood” if you watched Mozart in the Jungle). Gianluca Imperato, Milfa7, Narek Darbinyan, Afaq Mufti, Guzel Teymoor, Abdalla Amr, Stoyan Stoyanov.
