An Interview with Alfred Jones

Alfred-Jones

We chatted with Sudley, Virginia-based singer, songwriter, producer, and creative Alfred Jones about growing up around music and how that influenced him, Billie Eilish, and more. He also teases his upcoming EP with The // Moon releasing before the end of the year.

Hey! Introduce yourself. Where are you from?

Hello, my name is Alfred Jones. I am a singer-songwriter, producer, and creative from Sudley, Virginia.

When did you start making music?

I started making music when I was 15. I liked writing more than talking. I liked telling stories and writing made me feel safe like I was in my own little world.

Who inspired you to start making music?

Growing up, I was surrounded by music. A lot of Gospel Music. My dad taught me about the 80s and 90s R&B. I remember hearing Boyz 2 Men and Dru Hill on repeat as a kid. My mom showed me Makossa and the importance of rhythm. I am inspired by them.

How would you describe your music style?

Emotional. Chill and calming. Soft tears for the hard nights. Wanting to vibe alone or with someone for a while. That’s my type of music.

Who are you listening to now?

I’ve actually been listening to Billie Eilish lately. She’s really talented, and I even took some inspiration from her when I made Nadia. I plan on making a song with her someday.

What’s your best project or single so far?

I can’t tell you what my best single is because I look at my songs like my children. All my songs mean something to me in different ways. I love them all equally.

Any upcoming releases from you to look out for?

I have an EP coming out in a couple of weeks with an amazingly talented producer who goes by the name of The // Moon.  I’ve been writing music for quite a while but I never have been pushed so creatively as Moon did for me.

Have any shoutouts?

Shoutout to my family and my city, I couldn’t do this without y’all.

Stay tuned for Alfred Jones’ upcoming EP with The // Moon coming later this year. Until then, check out Sudley, Bittersweet, Nadia, and the rest of Alfred’s discography on Spotify.
