An Interview with Trevour Amunga

Trevour-Amunga

We sat down with L.A.-based recording artist Trevour Amunga for an exclusive interview. Trevour covers his start in music, inspirations, upcoming releases, and more.

Hey! Introduce yourself. Where are you from?

Hello, my name is Trevour Amunga. I was born in Kenya but moved to the states with my parents in 2008. I’m currently based in L.A.

When did you start making music?

I’ve always written songs and sung melodies to myself for as long as I can remember, but my first official recording was in 2015. That was when I learned how to apply what I write to actual music.

Who inspired you to start making music?

I would run out of room listing them all, but I think just listening to my favorite artists over the years affected my subconscious to wanna pursue music; artists such as Kendrick, OutKast, Kanye, Prince, Sly. There’s certain poetry and freedom to their music, and me being someone that loves poetry, I started to seek that same freedom.

How would you describe your music style?

I would describe it as different. I’m very conscious about sounding the same as everyone else and so in every song I make, whether it’s the production or the songwriting, I aspire to separate myself from the rest, which has led to my music being different from all my peers.

Who are you listening to now?

I’ve recently really gotten into electric music, so the French duo Air has been in heavy rotation.

What’s your best project or single so far?

EuphoriAA is the best single I have out so far.

Any upcoming releases from you to look out for?

Yes! I’m dropping my debut EP “For Akira” on October 1st. It’s a 7 song EP about youth, and the struggles, ambition, fear, and pleasures that come with it. EuphoriAA is the lead single for it.
