An Interview with Sasha D’Nise

Sasha D'Nise

Earlier this month we sat down with Toledo, Ohio experimental RnB artist Sasha D’Nise to talk about her musical upbringing, inspirations, upcoming album, and more. Check out our exclusive interview with Sasha.

Hey Sasha! Tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Sasha D’Nise and I am from Toledo, Ohio.

When did you start making music?

I started creating music my freshman year in high school. I started writing and recording as an outlet from the world, and a lot of my creations were kept to myself until I became an adult.

Who inspired you to start making music?

I come from a musical family. Growing up with my dad, who was also a singer, we would sing together daily when I was a young child. He inspired my love for Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Temptations, Stylistics, The Bee Gees, and many other quartet groups.

As I grew up, I noticed my love for Whitney Houston, her flawless beauty and voice along with her amazing acting skills. Her gifts and success opened my eyes the most because she made me believe with her unapologetic personality, her sassiness, and her ability to still walk in a room with poise and grace, her imperfections, with her talents gave me a little confidence in seeing myself as an artist.

As I grew into my teenage years, I became more inspired and studied artists such as Anita Baker, TLC, Destiny’s Child, Beyonce’, Jazmine Sullivan, Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill, Gladys Knight, and many others. It’s very difficult to leave my inspiration to just one person.

How would you describe your music style?

My sign is a Gemini. In general, I am an RbB artist, but I have a tendency to venture off into country styles, definitely pop, African, hip hop, and neo-soul. I like to let my creativity flow without placing a limit on it.

Who are you listening to now?

Right now I am listening to Jazmine Sullivan, and have ventured back into Beyonce’s previous album “4” I have also been listening to Kehlani, and a new singer named Victoria Monet’.

What’s your best project or single so far?

“Exhausted” has been doing great so far.

Any upcoming releases from you to look out for?

April 3rd, 2021 I will be releasing my Live Pre-Album visual and I can’t wait for everyone to get to see and know me from this visual. June 25th, 2021 I plan to release my full album – the first project that I had full control of.

Have any shout-outs?

I would like to shout out to God for providing me with the wisdom, the opportunities, and the talents and my parents who are always super supportive of me. There are many others but if I start naming people and leave someone out I might get jumped!
