An Interview with Sanchuk

Roman-Sanchuk

Sanchuk is a rising Israeli producer and co-founder of the Hardstyle scene in Israel. He is also the founder of the first Hardstyle event company, Life is Hardstyle. Over the past three years, Sanchuk has hosted more than a dozen events. Since 2014, Sanchuk has released a number of singles and extended plays that have spread his sound globally. This month, he sat down with us for an exclusive interview to discuss his craft.

Hey! Introduce yourself. Where are you from?

My name is Roman, I am 30 years old, from Israel. I am a co-founder of the Hardstyle scene in Israel and an owner of the first Hardstyle event company – Life Is Hardstyle. For the past 3 years I have been booking some big names from the Harder Styles scene, from various countries, and produced more than 20 events. What started as an attempt to fulfill a very old dream of mine, that is – to bring a Hardstyle DJ to play in Israel, turned into my life work. It was a breathtaking experience that inspired me and many other ravers from all around the country, ages, to come together and enjoy music that we couldn’t enjoy before. As a producer, it was the most creative time in my life. I interacted with so many artists that I had been looking up to, I met the most admirable DJs by me in person – DJ The Prophet, and of course during this time I produced lots of cool singles.

When did you start making music?

My first attempt to make any kind of music was when I was in the 8th grade. Me and my friends were listening to lots of metal music those days and after I borrowed a guitar from my cousin I started to learn how to play.

A couple of months later I realized that I was passionate about composing music rather than playing it live.

After my metal phase was over I started to explore more and more new genres of music and somehow, by mistake, I downloaded a Gabber album by an USA artist called Omar Santana. At first I was pretty shocked by the sound that I heard on his record, but the more I listened – the more I liked it. It wasn’t like all other music that I have been listening to back then and that is what inspired me to start making my first EDM track.

Who inspired you to start making music?

Beside Omar Santana there where a lot more artists like Angerfist, with his track Dance With The Wolfs, that was one of the first tracks that got me inspired to make hardcore music.

Also, from the first time I heard an album called Project One, from Headhunterz and Wildstylez I knew that this is where I want to be – mix hard reverse bass kicks with breathtaking melodies.

How would you describe your music style?

In genre I can call it Hard Dance Music, but if we take a closer look on each track I produced, and especially on my new stuff, what I am looking for to produce each time is a unique experience that is not like all other tracks from the genre and not like my old tracks. I am doing Hard Dance Music, but with an experimental twist in each track.

Who are you listening to now?

It very much depends on my mood. Lately I listened a lot to producers such as Sickdope, GRAVEDGR and lots of stuff from Barong Family.

What’s your best project or single so far?

The best one for all times will be Hate Me. While I produced this track It felt that all the music was floating right out of me. I didn’t have a single moment when I felt that I am stuck or not happy about this track, and it definitely came out amazing as a final product.

Any upcoming releases from you to look out for?

I am currently planning a very busy year with lots of new music, hopefully my first single for 2021 will be released already in January.
