An Interview with DevilSeam

Northern California and NYC artist DevilSeam sat down with DCR to discuss his Beatles influences, Ivory Chains, I Take Drugs, and 10 Drams, and more. DevilSeam shares insight into his art in our latest interview.

Hey! Introduce yourself. Where are you from?

I’m originally from a small hippie town in Northern California but moved pretty much every year of my life, so I just say I’m from NYC cause that’s where I am the most.

When did you start making music?

I used to want to be a songwriter as a kid but as I grew up I just channeled that into making rap parodies or for school projects in HS. It wasn’t until quarantine that I decided to actually say stuff.

Who inspired you to start making music?

The Beatles and DaBaby (in that order).

How would you describe your music style?

I’ve taken to calling it Emo Gangsta Rap.

Who are you listening to now?

BlueFace, Lil Baby, Michael Kiwanuka.

What’s your best project or single so far?

I like them for different reasons. I Take Drugs is probably the most mature but Ivory Chains is the most angsty. And then 10 Drams on the Bag is the bop of the group.

Any upcoming releases from you to look out for?

The illustriously titled “Untitled Ketamine Song” is in the works.

Have any shout outs?

Shoutout Hud$on Honor$.
