An Interview with Mo Brains

We had the chance to sit down with Inglewood, California based recording artist Mo Brains to discuss his Kanye West and Travis Scott inspirations, history with music, design work, and more.

Hey! Introduce yourself. Where are you from?

I am Mo Brains. I’m from the wild wild west, and I’m Inglewood, California’s very own 12th Planet Freak. I rap, make beats, record, mix and master my music, and I design as well. I’ve been creating a while now and did a bit of designing for a brand based out of NY called Significant Problems.

When did you start making music?

I started making music in the 11th grade and I was trash, but that is probably everyone’s origin story right? Initially I was playing bass guitar for the school band and that led to rapping and beat making.

Who inspired you to start making music?

Kanye West in his mom’s basement for 10 summers. If he could do what he did in a basement, maybe I could do the same out of my bedroom.

How would you describe your music style?

I would describe my style as alternative rap or maybe its own sub genre of rap like electronic rap. I have electronic vocals over trap beats and my subject matter would be described as atmospheric poetry or just the vibe. A blend between Kanye, Kid Cudi, Travis Scott and Offset. The culmination of the music I love.

Who are you listening to now?

Classic Kanye and Kid Cudi records, Astroworld, and that new Don Toliver, Heaven or Hell.

What’s your best project or single so far?

The best song so far seems to be No Lay Ups numbers wise, But by far the best song is Take it home ft. Teknique. this is a single we just released. People gonna love that one.

Any upcoming releases from you to look out for?

With Take it Home circulating, I plan on dropping a follow up single called 12th Planet Freak and a new project called UNDEFEATED.

Have any shout outs?

Shout out to my G, Teknique for holding it down. I can’t wait for the next feature. Shouts to EXOTIC and Significant Problems for keeping me laced with new apparel. Finally, big ups to my fans and listeners, thank you and I have merch for yall on the way.
