Hey, thanks for chatting with us. Tell us a little about yourself.

Hey, I am Tati Maia, a Brazilian singer and songwriter embarking on a musical adventure in the vibrant city of Los Angeles. At just 21, I’ve poured my heart into my craft, showcasing my passion for music through an EP titled “Luta ou Fuga.” I’m not just about vocals—I wield the guitar, piano, drums, and bass, bringing a dynamic range to my compositions. Back in Brazil, I graced numerous venues with my band, honing my skills and building unforgettable musical experiences. Now, on the buzzing streets of LA, I’m eager to recreate and share those moments. Get ready to dive into the harmonious world of Tati Maia, where Brazilian roots meet the eclectic energy of Los Angeles.

Who or what inspired you to start making music? And, when did you start?

I started making music when I was in lockdown in the pandemic. It was a way of keeping my mind entertained and putting my emotions into something artistic. Making music has helped me in so many ways, especially with mental health. I built a home studio in 2020, since I play guitar, bass, piano, and drums, I started writing and producing my own music.

What is your biggest challenge as an artist?

I think my biggest challenge as an independent artist is not having the support of a record label. Since I don’t have a big team, I am the one booking my own shows, and paying for production and music videos. Sometimes it is a bit overwhelming, even though I love making art.

What is your favorite project or single you have released?

My favorite project is my EP “Luta ou Fuga”, it was such a growing experience and it made me learn more about the music industry and myself in general.

Who are your inspirations? What artists or bands are you listening to?

I have a big pop-punk influence. I grew up listening to Paramore, Green Day, Avril Lavigne, and other emo artists.

What’s the process behind working on a song like?

I usually start building the harmony and melody of a new song on my guitar. After that, I start thinking about what I want to say in the lyrics and begin making rhymes.  Once the composition is done, me and my producer will think of different ways to build the production of the song and work on it together in the studio until it is finished.

Tell me about your upcoming music and what inspired you to create it!

The initial songs I released emerged from the depths of my creativity during the pandemic, made in the English language. Following my move to the U.S., I found myself drawn back to the poetic art of songwriting in English, and the journey has proven to be incredibly enriching. Currently, beyond drawing from my personal experiences, my musical inspiration is ignited by my generation. Gen Z, the generation born into a world immersed in technology and social connectivity, stands as a fascinating wellspring of inspiration.
