An Interview with Assia Ahhatt

Assia-Ahhatt

Assia Ahhatt, a multifaceted artist with an extraordinary talent with the violin, has carved a niche for herself in the music industry with her distinctive blend of melodies, arrangements, and compositions. With a deep-seated passion that emerged in childhood, Assia has transformed traditional sounds into contemporary masterpieces, even inventing her own language in her songs. We delve deeper into the musical realm of this unique artist to understand her inspirations, challenges, and what the future holds for her.

Who or what inspired you to start making music?

I started playing the violin at the age of 5. My grandmother brought me to the first lesson, and after a month of classes, the teacher told my family that he sees talent, diligence, and that the future winner of competitions is growing in the family. Despite the fact that the violin is one of the most difficult instruments, I enjoyed practicing and improving my playing. I decided to enter show business when I realized that I could and wanted to do more than just play someone else’s work. Since then, I have always been involved in creating music and arranging my works. In one of my songs, the words are written by me, in a language I invented. All my works are different, and written with inspiration and love. This is always felt by the audience at my concerts.

What is your biggest challenge as an artist?

I would not call it complexity, but I always approach the quality of work, mixing, the sound of instruments, the work of musicians and shows very responsibly. An important element is to compose the show, choose the compositions, their order, take into account all the wishes of the client, check the sound. This is always teamwork, I approach it responsibly and meet deadlines, and I demand the same from my team.

What is your favorite project or single you have released?

Each of my projects, whether it’s a single or an album, is special for me. Each of them is associated with different periods of my life, impressions, emotions, inspiration, ideas. I think I could mention the album All-In, written in collaboration with 17-time Grammy winner Humberto Gatica. It is bright, interesting, and all compositions are different. The whole family can listen to such music for hours and everyone, from young to old, will find something interesting for themselves on this concert evening!

What inspires you?

I love boat trips, walking along the shore, organizing my thoughts, thinking, drawing up a plan of action, and listening to music. I listen to all the new ones that come out. I also love lounge, classical, instrumental music, interesting arrangements, and combinations of different styles.

What’s the process behind working on a song like?

Long and painstaking, but always creative and in the mood for creation. The process always begins with an idea, discussion, then the composer and arranger are connected, sketches are made, then there is a process of discussion, edits, additional ideas, and so on. When the music is coordinated, engineers and technical staff are connected. In parallel with the process, a team works on licensing, legal issues, promotions, sales, production.

Tell me about your upcoming music and what inspired you to create it!

Now I am working on a project in which the music will include elements of Ukrainian folklore. This will be my second album, where I included the music of my homeland, which is now fighting for its independence. I have already tested the first composition, it evokes incredible emotions in the listeners. Hope the album is very successful!

What are your plans for 2023?

I am preparing several new concepts for my show, designed for different audiences, larger or smaller halls, with or without a band and dancers. I have a lot of material, and I can build a concert for almost any target audience.
