We Submit Music to Film Studios and Sync Licensing Companies

Getting your music licensed for a major motion picture or TV show can not only put money into your pocket to invest in your art but can help your music reach new ears. Kate Bush, the creator of Running Up That Hill, earned over $2.3 million after her song was used in the popular Netflix TV show Stranger Things. Her song went viral on TikTok, earning millions of streams online, and was heard by a generation that may never have been aware of Kate Bush, thanks to sync licensing. DCR artist management services pitch our clients’ music to major and independent film studios, music libraries, and sync licensing companies. In this case study, we discuss how we help clients get their music licensed for TV and film and heard by major film studios.

Landing sync licensing contracts for our clients

We helped a client land their music with SmashTrax, a music library, who purchased the rights to two of our clients’ songs for $375 in addition to negotiating royalties to be split with the client when the work using the clients’ songs is broadcasted. SmashTrax works with clients at ABC, Animal Planet, Cartoon Network, Disney, EA Games, ESPN, Fox, Marvel, NBC, Paramount, Sony, Universal, and many other organizations to place the music they license into their clients’ works. SmashTrax later went on to license nearly a dozen tracks from our client through our engagement.

Getting our client heard by major film studios

We helped another recent client get their music to stakeholders at Paramount, Legendary, and Disney through our pitches. The clients’ pitches were engaged with by 9 stakeholders from the film studios and 6 separate sync licensing companies out of the 256 pitches sent during the clients’ campaign. Tracking codes in our email pitches allow us to know when a stakeholder engages with our pitches, viewing a client’s Electronic Press Kit or listening to their catalog.

Artists should prioritize sync licensing

Landing a song in a movie, TV show, or other visual media can be lucrative and helpful for a recording artist’s career growth. These are just two examples of some of the successes we have had with our management services in getting our clients’ music in front of industry stakeholders. Want to learn more about sync licensing?
