An Interview with Jim Rezac

Jim-Rezac

Jim Rezac is a songwriter from Delaware. He’s played guitar all his life but only discovered writing music just 12 years ago, and he hasn’t stopped writing since. He’s performed his original music in places like The Bitter End, NYC; Avalon Theater, Easton, MD; Wilmington Grand Opera House in Delaware and countless showcases in PA, DE, MD. Recently Jim won the Best Theme Song for a Podcast at the NJ Webfest, an international competition.

His original work, the Theme Song for Muckey Landing; a sort of Podcast was up against songs from all over the U.S. and Europe. Rezac continues as music director for the multi-award-winning podcast and when he’s not recording in his studio by the tracks, is helping others enjoy the guitar, bass, ukulele, and banjo. Learn more about the fiercely Delawarean songwriter in this interview with DCR.

Hey! Introduce yourself. Where are you from?

I’m Jim Rezac from Wyoming, Delaware.

When did you start making music?

I’ve played guitar my whole life, since 7th grade, but only started writing music 12 yrs ago.

Who inspired you to start making music?

Like all guitarists, I toyed around with a riff here and there.  But it wasn’t until joining an Americana band in 2010 … that had 2 songwriters in it already … that I decided to actually say something with the bits and pieces I was gathering.

How would you describe your music style?

My style has elements of American roots music … a healthy dose of what people would refer to as “songwriter” tunes.  But I’ve been embracing my love of indie pop in my most recent stuff, especially when writing with the full band—ChurchKey Saints, in mind.

Who are you listening to now?

I’m listening to Lord Heron, Welshly Arms, The Unlikely Candidates, Judah and the Lion, Nathaniel Rateliff, and always Jason Isbell.

What’s your best project or single so far?

Fall and Last Horse in the Race.

Any upcoming releases from you to look out for?

All of My Love.

Have any shoutouts?

The Queen of Guitar, Janet Robin! And, Snacktime, from Philadelphia. And the countless students who STILL inspire me!
