Atlanta-based artist Akeem Worldwide released a new track this Juneteenth called You Got the Power. Like the holiday, the song is a celebration of the freedom and journey to empowerment of Black people in the United States. Though we observe the end of slavery on Juneteenth, we recognize that many of our peers continue to fight for their equality. You Got the Power honors the past sacrifices of others and empowers new generations to keep fighting.
Akeem Worldwide’s message in You Got the Power is similar to his outlook on life and other common themes in his music. In our recent interview, Akeem further highlighted the importance music had on the world, stating, “ … the world is very big, but as big as it gets, it always gets moving by music … ” and we very much agree! Music connects us like nothing else can and is a great way to get an important message out to the world.
