An Interview with Al Mur

Al-Mur

We had the opportunity to sit down with Greenville, North Carolina-based musician Al Mur to discuss his upcoming releases, getting started in music, and more.

Hey! Introduce yourself. Where are you from?

I live in Greenville, North Carolina. The town is a nice college town, located two hours from Raleigh on the west and two hours from the beach on the east.

When did you start making music?

About ten years ago, I began to write music. I have always been fascinated by the music of all genres, from pop to classical. In high school, I learned to play the guitar but never mastered it. Fortunately, years later, I found GarageBand on iPad and other music production apps, which allowed me to experiment with other instruments. I then adopted GarageBand for Mac and Logic Pro X, my DAW now.

Who inspired you to start making music?

This is a difficult question because my inspiration comes from various musicians Modest Mussorgsky, Robert Miles, Yanni, Brian Culbertson, Deadmau5 and more.

How would you describe your music style?

I struggle with answering this question as well. I started out writing progressive trance and cinematic music, and then switched to downtempo and chill, but my sound is closest to instrumental lo-fi hip hop.

Who are you listening to now?

In the car Deadmau5, at home Brian Culberson and Peter White. I also often listen to different lo-fi playlists from Spotify.

What’s your best project or single so far?

The most interesting project was a recent one where I produced over 10 lo-fi songs. I think the use of the same style results in a more mature product.

Any upcoming releases from you to look out for?

My new song Morning Kiss was just released a few days ago. The next releases are scheduled for April 11, 20, 25.

Have any shout outs?

I want to thank Dario Welz, A&R Manager at Plasmapool for his support.
