An Interview with KG Prince

We sat down with KG Prince to discuss his viral collaboration with Joey Trap, inspirations, favorite songs, and more. Learn more about the Denver, Colorado-based recording artist in this exclusive interview.

Hey! Introduce yourself. Where are you from?

It’s KG Prince here hailing from Denver, Colorado. Other known as the Rated R Rockstar!

When did you start making music?

I started making music around 2016 when my brother, a fellow artist by the name of DVSH, was producing little tracks on Garage Band in class or we would skip class to go record. I got laughed at around school until late 2017 when I teamed up with someone that goes by the name of Joey Trap featuring on my first viral hit Squidward’s Nose—ending up with 50 plus million views across the globe releasing sometime in December of 2017. That next year I dropped my freshman mixtape Palace in August of 2018 ending up with over 800k+ streams.

Who inspired you to start making music?

Honestly, Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, other known as The Neptunes, really inspired me. Watching their story was very inspirational and watching how they created a whole new sound for the culture made me realize I can make something happen. My dad actually put me on to Pharrell in 2006 in California I was 6 years old.

How would you describe your music style?

I would describe my music as very versatile. I try to make music that everyone can vibe to and also music that I like. I can go from hard-ass 808s to singing about heartbreak. Love really plays a big part in my music, because it’s all I know. The amount of times I’ve been broken from women is atrocious.

Who are you listening to now?

Right now I’m listening to a lot of KROOKID, noexclamation, Lino Slatt, and KanKan.

What’s your best project or single so far?

I would have to say one of my best tracks of all time is my newest release, “ithinkimightdietonight” because I feel like it’s very relatable for the youth and can be used as a crutch because I have as well so I know how it feels from self experience.

Have any shout outs?

Shout out all my true RRR’s and my collective Bad Habits. Shout out to my affiliate group Heartbreak Central and my best friend Brissa—she’s very honest and that means a lot to me.
