An Interview with Ben Ume

We had the opportunity to sit down and chat with UK based singer, guitarist, and performer Ben Ume to discuss his passion for music, influences, recent EP, and more in an exclusive interview.

Hey! Introduce yourself. Where are you from?

Hi, I’m Ben Ume, a singer, guitarist and performer from the southeast of England, UK.

When did you start making music?

I’ve been making music seriously for the last 6 years but have been singing and learning the guitar and music since I was a young teen. Music has been my passion for as long as I can remember.

Who inspired you to start making music?

So many incredible artists have inspired me to start and still inspire the music I make today. A few would be prince, B.B King and Stevie Wonder. But, my closest friends and now business partners were a key inspiration for me to take a career in music seriously.

How would you describe your music style?

My style is very laid back and melodic with a few neo soul influences. But my music ranges from reggae to rhythm and blues to jazz.

Who are you listening to now?

My music taste is firmly rooted in old school motown, hip hop and soul so classic artists like Luther Vandeross, Michael Jackson, Tupac, Mos Def, and Stevie Wonder make regular rotations. My favourite current artist would have to be Anderson Paak as his vibe is incredible.

What’s your best project or single so far?

My project that has received the most traction so far would have to be my track ‘Tension’ from my latest E.P. titled ‘TIME STAMPED’ which I released in May of this year. The music video is also available on YouTube.

Any upcoming releases from you to look out for?

Yes for sure! There is a collaboration E.P. being released in two months with my fellow artist Kevyn Ricard and another solo E.P following in October so keep your eyes and ears peeled.

Have any shout outs?

Definitely a huge shout out to my business partners Kevyn Ricard and Henry. Without them I wouldn’t be where I am today. And as always a massive shout out and thanks to everyone who listens, shares and supports me every step of the way. I am forever grateful.
