We had the chance to interview Kentucky based recording artist Twenty8oh5, to discuss his early success on the radio, inspirations, unique style, and more.
Hey! Introduce yourself. Where are you from?
I go by Twenty8oh5, born in North Dakota, raised all over, from Louisville, Kentucky.
When did you start making music?
I started making music at 13 with my big cousin, I rapped and produced along with my big brother. We were able to make enough buzz to get on the most popular radio station in our city at the time.
Who inspired you to start making music?
We looked up to artists like The Hot Boys, Nas, Camron, obviously Biggie and Tupac, just too many to name. They influenced me heavy, but the real credit goes to my big cousin.
How would you describe your music style?
I believe it’s indescribable, I don’t just stay in one lane. I take the title of “artist” seriously, I can’t just be a rapper, I go back and forth from rapping to singing, and I’ve been producing myself for years now. Anything that inspires me to create I try to take and make my own so I can’t really describe my style. I would need an outsider or fan of my music to do so.
Who are you listening to now?
I listen to all music, almost every genre, but if I’ve got to name a few I’ll say … 070 Shake, Pardison Fontaine, Griselda, All of QC The Label, and lately old Kanye West … 808’s stays in rotation.
What’s your best project or single so far?
I’ve got lots of music so I’m going to cheat a little bit and choose 2 projects, “Audible Trappin’” and “$LAPS EP”.
Any upcoming releases from you to look out for?
I’m working on a continuation of $LAPS, I’m calling it “$LAP Hall of Fame” as of right now.
